A Good Olympics

Diversity. There’s a much bigger part of our citizenry waking up this morning switched-on to the innate joy of living with these things more to the fore. Cyrenians vision is of a more successful society: one that values and includes all of its people, whatever their fortune and condition. You can’t help hoping that the last two weeks has left Britain a kinder place.
I’m hoping Cyrenians will see – in our own small way – a Games legacy in more people applying to be volunteers here and more raising sponsorship through sporting activities. The Bank of Scotland Foundation has an excellent Volunteering Grants Programme that we’ve gone to to help us in spearheading a major increase in volunteering with Cyrenians.
It’s also time to push forward on enabling Cyrenians customers to get access to the health and social benefits of participation in sport and leisure. People on the margins – old and young – have most to gain but face the biggest barriers. Not just money and kit but confidence and culture. Cyrenians will step up our efforts to support the most excluded to get involved.
Hopefully everyone will be encouraged to get out and participating. Me? I’ve just bought my first wetsuit and take the plunge into Open Water swimming at Strathclyde Park at the end of the month.
